Cutlers
Although this is a Bar & Brasserie, the emphasis is much more on the food
than on casual drinkers.
The Generous Pioneer
Huge modern pub on the outskirts of the village, with large separate eating
areas. Tends to cater more for families and other passers-by wanting food, on
their way to the Dales.
The Hermit
Traditional pub in the adjoining hamlet of Burley Woodhead, excellent
reputation for food. Popular watering hole with stunning views over the Wharfe
Valley. Traditional opening hours. If you're planning to go there for their
Sunday lunch, go early. Saturday would be good.
The Queens
Recently modernised pub more popular with the younger end. Offers
entertainment most week-ends.
The Red Lion
A very popular village local, with a separate games/TV room. Offers a
standard meal menu from lunch-time through to 8pm every day. Quiz nights
Thursday and Sunday.
The White Horse
A small, very traditional Tetley pub, popular with the locals. No
food.
Clubs (Membership)
Cricket Club/ Sports Club
Very active club, catering for the local cricket, football and tennis
players, along with their spectators. Open most weekends and occasionally
evenings. Holds several Car Boot Sales during Summer on cricket field. Popular
for private parties.
Rifle/Social Club
Formerly called the Miniature Rifle Club, recently (2003) renamed Burley Social
Club. CIU affiliated. Venue for bingo sessions. Has Games Room with snooker
table. Pool also available. Each Wednesday at 8:30pm The Leeds Dance Orchestra ,
with 17 players, perform a reportoire of popular dance tunes for a couple of
hours. Popular for private parties. Club is hidden away at Hilltop.
Unionist Club
Next to the White Horse on Main Street, this members club is usually
referred to as the "Con Club" due to its' political leaning, although politics
never seem to be mentioned, other than in normal bar banter. Full size snooker
table, and a separate pool table, both upstairs. Regular quizzes on Wednesday
and Friday evenings. "Golden Key" each Friday evening. Non-members are most
welcome, and can be signed in prior to applying for membership at the outrageous
cost of £3 a year - yes, EVERY year!!
